About Session:

Session started with mindfulness session where the difference between mind-full or mindful got cleared. Main reason behind showing benefits of mindfulness is to showcase insights and learning that can be implemented in ourselves and our teams. This session was different from other guest lectures because of show casing knowledge through case studies. Various IT tools was discussed with the help of Ultratech Cement, L&T Heavy Engineering and Unilever case studies.

Ultratech Cement:

It is an Indian cement company based in Mumbai owned by Aditya Birla Group. In 2014-15 company used Primavera scheduler and contract manager as well as SAP based cost management systems. Company had adapted approach of high front-end loading to increase their production. They have also integrated EPC project schedule till level L4 which is highest in its category. Basically, EPC schedule includes material delivery, engineering, procurement, commissioning sections and all. Main issue they face was uncertainty in planning. So, the question arise is what could be the reason ?

It could be :

Government policy, delay, resources, computer language. Outcome for this case study is Ultratech Cement has adapted Primavera to schedule their all concern regarding planning. L&T Heavy Engineering: L&T Heavy Engineering manufactures and supplies custom designed equipment & critical piping to process industries such as fertilizer, chemical, refinery, petrochemical, and oil & gas, as well as to sectors such as thermal & nuclear power. Initially they were facing problems regarding vendor ordering and difficulty to spot behaviour of products they sell. So, company have taken help of PLM which means Product Lifestyle Management so they can execute particular project with ease. PLM designs in which part reuse as well material availability. With PLM they have used ENOVIA which is IT Tool for Project Management. ENOVIA like making prototype model which can help in development of business processes with collaborating product. After implementing this, they get enhanced vendor ordering with easy design sharing for parts. Outcome for this case study is how L&T Heavy Engineering use Project tool PLM with IT tool ENOVIA.

Unilever:

Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) is a British-Dutch manufacturing company headquartered in Mumbai, India. Its products include foods, beverages, cleaning agents, personal care products, water purifiers and consumer goods. They faced a challenge in 2013 which was of robust system of sourcing. They spent a lot on sourcing material tool because product’s price depends on cost of raw material. Company initially took help of SAP based Ariba which depends on cloud SaaS technology, delivery on demand. Main issue is sourcing material require good record that must be well structured. Strategy level authority initially try to get benefits of Primavera, but they find gap in this IT tool. Gap like lots of variable, lack of design data. Primavera have feature of What-If , Scenario management, Schedule analysis and Crashing restriction for typical variable. So just because of this they needed a system that has a good record keeping system for perishable products. They found solution regarding these issues by implementing Primavera with Agile PLM. This combined system reflects by changing in one system to final system.  Outcome for this case study is how Unilever change their robust system to improve material management by implementing Primavera with Agile PLM.
