LEAN 6 SIGMA SEMINAR - CSENSE

There was an informative seminar on lean six sigma which was conducted by Mr. Kannan from CSense. The seminar enlightened us about the Lean Six Sigma being one of the most successful and widely applied business transformation tools across every industrial sector majorly in banking, automobile, electronics. Lean six sigma is a proven methodology to improve efficiency by robust problem solving techniques. The concept of lean was originated by Toyota a Japanese company which is role model for operation. The concept of six sigma was firstly applied in Motorola in the United States in 1986. Six Sigma was developed within Motorola to compete with the Kaizen business model in Japan.

Six sigma has 3 components namely project management, statistics, best practice. It allows defect to be as minimum as 3.4 defects out of 1 million transaction and is capable to convert everything in numbers which are easily quantifiable. Hence this helps in improving quality of a product, bottom line cost saving upto5-20%, reduce the process cycle times, develop staff skills, improve Return on Investment, a creates a common language in the organisation. The structure of Lean six sigma use DMAIC which means -

Define: Defining the Projects that will help to improve the business pain areas.

Measure: Measure the process performance in terms of the project parameter.

Analyse: Analyse the root causes of the problem

Improve: Take corrective actions on the root causes to improve the project parameters

Control: Establish effective control measures – both hard & soft – connecting with KPIs

The certification of lean six sigma green belt is an intermediate level which gives thorough knowledge of data collection, analysis, solution generation and implementation. It is a 3 day                ( 8 hours per day)program wherein the last day there will be a written test conducted.
