Finance department of ITM Business School, Kharghar organised a guest lecture on the topic “Asset Management Industry-Cruising towards Rs.100 trillion mark and the opportunities lying ahead” for the students of PGDM Finance specialisation Batch 2019-21 on 18th January 2020. The guest session has been conducted by Mr. Amitabh Dalal, Vice President – Institutional Sales in Mumbai with UTI Mutual Fund.
Prof. Uma Ghosh, Assistant Professor – Finance department ITM Business School, introduced the speaker to the students.
In his lecture, Mr. Amitabh Dalal discussed the rules and regulations of SEBI regarding mutual funds. He also conducted a quiz for brainstorming of the students. He discussed the areas where people have started investing like stocks, currency, mutual funds, deposits, bonds, etc. He also informed about the importance of savings, investment and financial literacy. He enlightened some facts about India’s financial ranking in terms of GDP and mutual funds. Being an informative speaker, he explained about the transition shift from paradigm savings to financial savings. He stressed the roles of an Asset Management industry. He enlightened about the defaults in the corporate which he supported by an example of DHFL default, which also affected the mutual fund industry.
He highlighted the various job opportunities in the mutual fund industry. There are three types of job opportunities i.e. Sales, Fund Management and Marketing. He also discussed the hardcore finance job opportunities in mutual fund industry such as Finance, Risk department, Product development and Operations. He also told the fact that banks are the biggest distributor of mutual funds. So, he injected the seriousness among the students to explore their prospects in the mutual fund industry. After delivering his lecture he encouraged students to clear their doubts.
It was a very informative and interactive session where students have learnt various job opportunities in the mutual fund industry. This wonderful session of knowledge sharing and gaining ended by honouring the esteemed speaker Mr. Amitabh Dalal with a memento given by Dr Tushar Ranjan Panigrahi, Associate Professor – Finance department ITM Kharghar.
